An other possibility is that the fusion energy is carried away by one energetic electron, which is shielding the reaction (it is in close proximity to the nucleus). In this second case, the electron-positron pairs are created by the energetic electron, as it interacts with other particles. This second possibility is never discussed by the authors. It would be relevant to consider both possibilities, and distinguish them experimentally, if possible.
I enjoyed this discussion of Komrade Czerkis's et al. paper. When I worked at IIASA in the late 80s some of the Soviet scientists there would also sometimes affectionately call me "komrade." In this hypothesis, where would the 511keV photons come from? In a Positron based theory, they are annihilation photons.

Off-topic, but would you mind answering a few questions?
-Would it be fair to say that the TSG is a modified/upgraded version of the GEET?
-If so, why did Bendall choose the exhaust? (still requires the same amount of fossil fuel)
-If so, was it because Pantone’s system didn’t fit the timeline? (+20 years ago, TSG wouldn’t have seen the light of day either.)
