“The nature of transmutation caused by cold fusion”

Dr. Edmund Storms was one of the first of the early researchers to reach out to the MFMP. I remember very well sitting on the floor of a Swiss laboratory in late 2012 with other founding MFMP directors Mathieu Valat and Nicolas Chauvin, engaging in group conversation with him.

As I learned about the work of Ken Shoulders in 2017, I gained new respect for Dr. Storms through Ken’s own words in 2010. At ICCF-26 in Morioka, Japan, that respect again leapt to another level as, at 94 years young, he declared that all processes in our field are driven by ‘Electron Clusters’. This was a pleasant surprise to me, but not as much as his response to my question on how like charges could be held together!

So who is Dr Edmund Storms?

Dr. Edmund Storms (born 22 April 1931) is a nuclear chemist with a Ph.D. in radiochemistry. He spent 32 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory, retiring in 1991. During his tenure, he contributed to materials research for nuclear rocket propulsion, developing refractory carbides for high-temperature, radiation-resistant applications in space programs to the Moon and beyond. The program was successfully developed, but canceled without deployment.

Since 1989, Storms has pioneered cold fusion/LENR (Coherent Energy Transformation) research, founding Kiva Labs and authoring books on the subject.

Update #1 - Hypothesis in May 1989 by Larry Hull refers effectively to production of Hydrogen-4 via electron capture leading to 4He

This is good early insight. It is in the same ball park as Dr. Storms, he is calling it tunnelling rather than ‘electron capture’ - neither Hull or Storms have an adequate explanation in the two documents being discussed (although Storms has many other published works) to explain how the tunnelling or electron capture is initiated - just that it happens. The lack of adequate explanation for ‘electron capture’ by storms has been a decades long challenge as I understand it in the CMNS group.

Of course the nnnp+ is proposed is essentially the same as Storms’ Hydrogen-4 cation.

Dr. Matsumoto’s hypothesis, fits the fact pattern elucidated by Storms better IMHO - especially how the Hydrogen-4 cation can appear outside the metal to form 4He rather than 4He being produced in the metal and getting trapped. Dr. Matsumoto’s explination for the formation of nnnn (quad neutron) nucleus from via at least a tri-deuteron cation and electrons (reaction 2a and 2b on page 117 of “Steps to the Discovery of Electro-Nuclear Collapse”) in a system that compresses it, leading to self compression, is logical and easy to follow.

The particle track data captured on nuclear emulsions as presented on pages 118 and 119 cannot be explained by Hull or Storms hypothesis.
